What is Venice Connects
Venice Connects is a service designed to help travellers safely and confidently create their own itineraries with a connection in Venice, Italy. By booking with us, your flight transfer is guaranteed. Plus, we even give you a suite of exclusive benefits.
A self-connection is a transfer between planes managed independently by the passenger, who books two separate flights, not on the same airline, to arrive at the desired destination.
For example, if you want to go from Naples to Seoul, you can’t get there with a direct flight, simply because there aren’t any. For that reason, you are required to transfer (first a flight from Naples to Venice, then a second flight from Venice to Seoul). This type of travel is a self-connection.
It may not be common knowledge, but when you buy two airline tickets on different airlines (or even on the same airline, as is the case with many low-cost operators), that have no direct agreement for assistance if you miss your connection, there is no obligation for them to honour the ticket for the second leg of your trip.
That means that if the first flight is delayed and the connection is missed, the passenger is not protected in any way, and is often forced to buy a new ticket to reach the final destination.
If you are travelling with checked baggage, or if you don’t yet have a boarding pass for your next flight, follow the signs to Baggage Claim and collect your luggage. Without leaving the Baggage Claim area, find the Venice Connects Desk (near Baggage Claim belt n. 1). Our staff will then help you transfer to your next flight.
If allowed by the airline operating your subsequent flight, you can leave your checked luggage with us, which will be tagged and sent to be loaded for the next leg of your trip. At that point, you can head to the boarding gate for your flight.
In all other cases, you’ll need to go to the check-in desk for the airline operating the connecting flight and drop off your checked luggage. Then clear security and head to your boarding gate.
If travelling with hand luggage only, you can stop at the Venice Connects Desk located just before the entrance doorway to the Baggage Claim area. The staff will assist you and give you a discount voucher for a bit of airport shopping. After having inspected your boarding pass and your hand luggage, you will be granted access to the boarding gates area.
After disembarking from the plane, at the entry to the terminal, you’ll find the Venice Connects Desk, properly indicated with a sign.
No, airlines are rather strict about punctuality and will not wait for passengers. If you have purchased the Venice Connects service and you are unable to get to your connecting flight in time for boarding due to a delayed arrival into Venice, you will receive assistance in reaching your final destination, at no additional cost.
Once you’ve landed in Venice, head to the Venice Connects Desk (if travelling with checked luggage, pick up your bags from the Baggage Claim area then head to the Venice Connects Desk next to baggage claim belt no. 1). Our staff will assist you in contacting Dohop Customer Service, which is the company that guarantees you’ll be able to get on the next available flight and, if necessary, will provide a hotel room and meals while you’re waiting.
